State Benefits Application Assistance

Through our Social Services Department, the Food Bank of the RGV educates, informs, refers to other services, guides and assists one- on- one with the SNAP) application process (formerly known as Food Stamps) along with any other assistance available through the Health and Human Services Commission.

Our Certified Case Assistance Navigators are available to assist our clients with;

  • SNAP
  • Medicaid for Adults and Children
  • CHIP
  • TANF
  • Healthy Texas Women’s Program 

Please take note that we do not have the authority to approve applications or conduct interviews, only assist with the application process.

Our Social Services Coordinators offer their services to Hidalgo, Cameron, and Willacy Areas. 

Our Social Services Coordinators cater to the unique needs of each client by offering these services through a range of channels, including home visits, local public libraries, resource centers, and community centers.

Public Referrals Program

The Health and Human Services Commission seeks to establish a comprehensive referral program that assists individuals applying for public assistance benefits with accessing additional resources by providing referral and follow up services. Referrals services includes assessment of individuals’ needs, resource referral(s), and follow up.

-Drivers license or identification
-Social Security card
-Proof of income
-Social Security award letter (if applicable)
-Utility bill with name and address
