Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP)

The Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) also known locally as the “Senior Box Program” works to improve the health of low-income persons at least 60 years of age by supplementing their diets with nutritious USDA Foods.

The Food Bank RGV currently has a caseload of over 9,000 seniors that are served monthly throughout Cameron, Hidalgo, and Willacy counties. Seniors are assigned to pick up their supplemental box at an assigned community site each month.

Application Process

Individuals interested in applying may complete their application over the phone by calling 956-682-8101 and pressing option 3. After the CSFP application has been completed the client will choose an available community pick-up site for their distribution. At the first distribution, participants will receive a calendar for the next distributions and also information on participant’s responsibilities and program guidelines. CSFP distributions are conducted through a ‘drive-thru’ model. Food Bank RGV staff and volunteers will place the boxed product in the participant’s vehicle for the safety of the participant and to help expedite the distribution.

What Foods are Provided to Participants?

Food packages include a variety of foods. Exact contents vary, but every box includes cereals, juices, proteins, peanut butter or dry beans, milk, grains, canned fruits and vegetables, and 2 pounds of cheese.
