Healthy LivingHealthy Living is a nutrition education program partially funded by the Texas Health and Human Services.

The program consists of instruction and on-site cooking classes aimed at food stamp program participants and other low-income individuals.

Nutrition education is the main component of the 8-week course.  The program promotes my pyramid, exercise, 5-a-day fruit and vegetable consumption, shopping wisely, and food safety and sanitation as a vital means of staying healthy.

Healthy Living consists of nutrition lessons taught by Food Bank RGV Nutrition Manager Sandra Villegas (photo, right with Dalilah from Telemundo) and two Healthy Living Trainers.

In addition, participants are taught how to read nutrition labels, how to shop on a budget, and how to cook nutritiously.  The program also stresses prevention of many diet related diseases, like diabetes.

The classes are given on location at each participating agency or organization. Materials are in both English and Spanish with classes offered in both languages.
