POSITION TITLE: Manager of Communication and Advocacy
ACCOUNTABLE TO: Executive Director
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The primary objective of this position is to communicate fully both internally and externally the programs and food and fund raising opportunities throughout the year; being ever mindful of branding and cost.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Produces marketing and promotional material for annual reports, quarterly newsletters, and other program related in-house and outside publications.
- Designs and produces promotional materials associated with capital endowment, annual giving and planned giving campaigns.
- Maintains and updates Media Guide, Media Kit and Media Relations
- Issues Press Releases and PSA on all FBRGV activities and hunger related news to local Media: TV, Radio and Newspaper
- Regularly researching hunger and related topics through newspapers and on-line websites
- Produces information by transcribing, formatting, inputting, editing, retrieving, copying, and transmitting text, data, and graphics.
- Prepares reports by collecting and analyzing information
- Provides historical reference by developing and utilizing filing and retrieval systems; recording meeting discussions
- Provides opinion, offers support, and gathers information by representing the organization in public, social, and business events
- Participates in inter & intra department projects
- Uses cameras and scanners to capture photographs, images, or art as digital data that can be incorporated into electronic page layouts or further manipulated with the use of computer software.
- Evaluates existing relevant policies and procedures and makes recommendation to Executive Director
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and reviewing professional publications
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director
PRIMARY ADVOCACY DUTIES:
- Works closely with Feeding America and the Texas Food Bank Network on national and state legislative issues.
- Plan and implement processes to engage our publics in getting involved in advocacy issues that relate to hunger, i.e. “write your Congressman” or “sign a petition” campaigns.
- Regularly researching and implementing advocacy best practices
- Seeking out opportunities for FBRGV to advocate in public arenas (events, speaking opportunities, etc).
- Monitoring local and regional legislative and regulatory issues of concern to FBRGV and apprising appropriate public (volunteers, staff, and general public) of emerging advocacy issues.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- College degree in field appropriate for this position
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel, FrontPage, Macromedia Studio, Adobe, In Design, Illustrator, PageMaker, Acrobat Professional
- High degree of professionalism, flexibility and able to multi task
- Must be detail oriented and be able to work independently adhering to deadlines
- Proficient in Business English
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Customer Service oriented
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Employee is expected to carry assignments to completion with a minimum of direction: to convey at all times a courteous professional image; and to use discretion and good judgment based on a thorough knowledge of Food Bank RGV activities.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assisting in preparing USDA Reports for monthly reimbursements
- Assist with the fiscal year-end and fixed asset accounting
- Reconcile Capital Campaign (Donor Quest, Capital Campaign spread Sheet, and Navision
- Assist in preparing of monthly Financial Reports
- Establish, maintain, and coordinate the implementation of accounting and accounting control procedures.
- Maintain Fixed Asset spread sheets.
- Assist Financial Administrator with year-end audit.
- Maintain financial security by following internal control.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks, participating in professional societies
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
- Resolve accounting discrepancies
- Recommend, develop and maintain financial data bases, computer software systems and manual filing systems
- Performs additional duties as assigned by the Financial Administrator.
